Main auto partner Chongqing Changan Automobile (000625.SZ) and relevant parties will own up to 40% of the new firm, a Changan Auto statement showed on Sunday. Neither Changan Auto nor Huawei disclosed financial details. Changan Auto referred Reuters to its Sunday statement and declined to comment further. Huawei has partnerships with other auto companies, including Seres Group (601127.SS) and Jianghuai Automobile (600418.SS), as well as with Changan Auto involving EV brands Avatr and Deepal. The proposed deal will also smooth the way for the business' listing, as Huawei had planned, said two of the people.

BYD (002594.SZ) used an event this week to mark a production milestone to celebrate a bigger purpose: the emergence of China as a global auto manufacturing powerhouse. China's automakers are locked in a bruising price war that was started by Tesla (TSLA.O) in January and which shows no signs of easing. It ends with a call for China's automakers to "demolish the old legends and achieve new world-class brands," under the slogan, "Chinese Autos". said Li Xiang, CEO of Li Auto, who reposted the BYD video. In July, the industry group representing China's automakers retracted a pledge to avoid "abnormal pricing" brokered between 16 automakers, including BYD.

China announces steps to boost sales of cars and electronics

Employees work on the assembly line of new energy vehicles (NEVs) at a workshop of China FAW Group's Hongqi Fanrong Plant on July 5, 2023 in Changchun, Jilin Province of China. Chinese authorities announced measures on Friday intended to help boost sales of automobiles and electronics with the goal of shoring up a sluggish economy, but the steps failed to impress investors who have been clamoring for stronger stimulus. In June, they unexpectedly extended a purchase tax break on new energy vehicles until 2027. A separate statement on supporting sales of electronics products said authorities would encourage scientific research institutes and market entities to actively apply domestic artificial intelligence technology to improve intelligence levels of electronic products. Investors have said they are disappointed by China's weak second quarter growth and want to see stronger stimulus, with some pinning their hopes on the Politburo meeting later this month.

IMPORTED ASSEMBLY KITSAfter a chaotic decade following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Russia encouraged Western carmakers to build factories. "Undoubtedly, the expansion of Chinese carmakers on the Russian market will continue," said Andrey Olkhovsky, the head of dealership chain Avtodom. It is a radical change of fortunes for Chinese carmakers in Russia. Production of Chinese vehicles only began in Russia in 2019 with the arrival of Chinese automotive company Great Wall Motor (601633.SS). LESS LOCAL INPUTUnder the partnership with Chinese firms, less of the production at former Western factories is currently conducted in Russia, the sources said.

[1/2] A Tesla Model 3 electric vehicle (EV) is displayed at the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) in Beijing, China September 1, 2022. Toyota (7203.T) offered a discount on its bZ4X EV, and Nissan (7201.T) offered an incentive on its Ariya EV. Volkswagen's (VOWG_p.DE) joint ventures with SAIC and FAW also announced price cuts in China on their ID-series EVs on Friday. AlixPartners said while China's EV market will continue to grow rapidly, intensifying competition and excess capacity will also drive a shakeout. In one example, Chinese automakers have invested $1.4 billion in Thailand since 2020, now dominating the Thai EV market after taking share from the Japanese brands that have long operated there.

The first bZ car - the bZ4X sport-utility vehicle - was to hit the market in China earlier this year, but a global recall of the car forced Toyota to suspend production of the model globally. The car is roughly the same size as Toyota's Corolla model but with a bigger back-seat section, the sources said. There are no plans for Toyota's other joint venture with GAC Motor to produce the bZ3, the three sources said. Toyota has long advocated a small car that does not compromise on comfort as the best way to popularise BEVs, but it has struggled to produce one. The bZ3's smaller sedan configuration has become feasible chiefly because of BYD's thinner lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) Blade battery technology.
SHANGHAI, April 25 (Reuters) - Volkswagen Group China's (VOWG_p.DE) Shanghai factory has started a gradual resumption to production, it said on Monday.
